About Erica
My journey from SCAD-trained illustrator to contemporary paper artist began with a simple fascination: how a single cut, a splash of color, could tell an entire story. Today, I create original papercut artworks that blend meticulous craftsmanship with an unmistakably joyful aesthetic.
Each piece begins as a digital design, meticulously crafted and then precision-cut using an electronic die cutter before being paired with original hand-painted backgrounds. This hybrid approach—digital precision meets handmade artistry—ensures clean, intricate cuts that would be impossible by hand, while the painted backgrounds make every piece truly one-of-a-kind. Every constellation, whimsical animal, and reimagined everyday object emerges from careful attention to line, color, and composition.
What sets my work apart is the marriage of technical precision with playful intelligence. These aren't just decorative pieces; they're collectible artworks that reward close viewing with clever details and unexpected moments of delight. The vibrant palettes and graphic clarity make them equally at home in contemporary interiors and serious collections.
Working from my studio in historic Ellicott City, Maryland, I've built Hull Street Studio's reputation piece by piece. My originals are now collected nationally, with works placed in boutiques, galleries, and museum shops from coast to coast. Each artwork represents hours of meticulous handwork—cutting, painting, and assembling—resulting in pieces that simply cannot be replicated.
For collectors seeking contemporary work that bridges accessibility and sophistication, my papercuts offer something rare: art that makes you think while it makes you smile.
